Our names carry the charge of our namer. This loose quote from author John Steinbeck is true of The Church. We, as part of God’s people are called and named by him, and each local congregation also chooses a name. When choosing a name we do well to remember the words of Galileo Galilei.
Names and attributes must be accommodated to the essence of things, and not the essence to the names, since things come first and names afterwards.
In October, as we look to our re-branding, we will look to the Bible to consider our essential calling and discover our name. Be a part, Sundays at 10 a.m. or in a weekday small group.
